At present, more than 20 UN organizations maintain local offices in Japan. Established not only in Tokyo but in areas across the country, the offices operate as bases for individual UN entities, while at the same time endeavouring to increase familiarity among the Japanese population, with the works of the UN as a whole.
The following is an introduction to the UN’s offices in Japan and a message to the Japanese people.
“Japan has actively participated in the work of the United Nations and the Japanese people should know how much Japan’s global role is appreciated in the Untied Nations and world-wide.”
-- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, visiting Japan in July 2009
