Official visit of the President of the General Assembly to Japan

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, will visit Japan from 26 to 30 October 2010 at the invitation of the Japanese Government.
During his visit, President Deiss will hold meetings with Japanese officials, including the Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs as well as leaders of the National Diet of Japan, the country’s bicameral legislature.
On 27 October, President Deiss will attend the opening ceremony of the High-Level Ministerial Segment (HLS) of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity in Nagoya.
On 28 October, the President of the General Assembly will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial where he will pay tribute to the atomic bomb victims at the Memorial Cenotaph. Moreover, President Deiss will meet with the Special Communicator for a World without Nuclear Weapons and A-Bomb victims from Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
On 29 October, President Deiss will give a lecture at the United Nations University in Tokyo and meet with the United Nations Country Team.
