Press Conference on Launch of UNODC Report Patterns and Trends of Amphetamine-type stimulants and other drugs in East and South-East Asia
Press Release 10-088-E 2010.11.10
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), based in Vienna, will launch a report entitled “Patterns and trends of amphetamine-type stimulants and other drugs in East and South-East Asia” later this month in Tokyo.
East and Southeast Asia, home to about a third of the global population, is one of the fastest growing regions in the world. Economic development in the region is leading to new infrastructure and trade initiatives. However, the governance, law enforcement and public health have not always kept pace with the economic and social drivers in the region.
One such issue and challenge facing the region is the threat posed by ATS and other synthetic drugs. In many countries in the region, ATS have become the primary drug threat, displacing traditionally used drugs such as heroin, opium or cannabis.
Dr. Sandeep Chawla, who is heading the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs at UNODC, will visit Japan for the launch of the report at Japan National Press Club on 29 November from 15:00. We look forward to your participation.
Time/Date: 15:00-16:30 Thursday 25 November
Venue:Japan National Press Club (Tel: 03-3503-2721)
The Banquet Room, the 9th floor of Nippon Press Center Bldg.
