UNIC Tokyo Launches Facebook Page
Press Release 09-051-E 2009.11.05
United Nations Information Centre Tokyo has launched an official Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/unictokyo). Facebook, as one of the largest online social networks with a user base of 300 million people worldwide, will be used as an active approach to expand UNIC’s social network and generate a higher degree of awareness of UN-related activities among people of different age groups and nationalities.
The new Facebook page will be used to disseminate the latest information on UNIC’s activities, including news stories, press releases, special projects and events. The UN Interview Series is also featured, which is a project facilitated primarily by UNIC’s interns, and provides an introduction to the various works of the UN through interviews with UN Goodwill Ambassadors and prominent UN supporters in Japan.
Information on the approaching “UN Week 2009” (October 16-24) has also been included, together with a one-minute promotional video produced by UNIC with the support of over 70 men and women who appeared in the video on a voluntary basis. The video is centred on UN Week’s three key phrases: namely, “The world you’re in”; “You, in the world”; and “Can you be happy on your own?” and further to the Facebook page, will also be aired on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl3op0Mi-to) and several large screens positioned in areas of high pedestrian traffic around metropolitan Tokyo. We hope that you too will take a moment to view the video.
UNIC will post photographs and footage of UN events on the Facebook page on an ongoing basis and wishes to invite those interested to become “fans” of page and to share with us your valuable thoughts and opinions.
