UN Photo Exhibition Touring Japan Starts in Hiroshima:
“Human Security for All”

Press Release 07-087-E 2007.10.23

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the launch of a photographic exhibition entitled “Human Security for All: Integrated Responses to Protect and Empower People and Communities,” starting Saturday 27 October.

The exhibition aims to showcase the activities that have been conducted by the UN, with the support of the Government of Japan, in promoting “human security.” It is hoped that through this exhibition, many people in Japan will be able to understand the international actions to protect human beings from serious and wide-spread threats such as civil conflicts, poverty, environmental degradation and infectious diseases, while aiming at empowering people.

Among the various projects which are being carried out worldwide through the UN Trust Fund for Human Security, the Exhibit will highlight five projects operated in Tanzania, Cambodia, Honduras, East Timor and Lebanon. Photos of East Timor include those taken by Actress Ms. Norika Fujiwara.

It is the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Tokyo’s strong wish that through this exhibition many people will learn how the concept of human security is bringing hope and making a difference to people’s lives. We hope the occasion will serve to make the audience more familiar with Japan’s international cooperation conducted in the global arena today.
