On the World Water Day 2005, 22 March, the United Nations declared the International Decade for Action “Water for Life.” While water is essential for our life, more than a billion people in the world lack access to safe water. Besides, many millions of children die every year from water-borne diseases.

“WATER FOR LIFE” Poster Exhibition will be held in the UN Pavilion at Aichi Expo 2005, jointly organized by the United Nations Information Centre and Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA, the President is Mr. Shigeo Fukuda). The exhibition will display a selection of works from the JAGDA Poster Exhibition “WATER FOR LIFE,” aiming to raise awareness to the International Decade for Action “ WATER FOR LIFE,” starting on 15 May.

JAGDA Poster Exhibition “WATER FOR LIFE” was designed to appeal the theme of the international decade to the world, by expressing freely and vivaciously with graphic design as an international language. The jury meeting was held on the World Water Day this year. The winners of the Poster Grand Prize in the Member Category and the Grand Prize and three Semi-Grand Prizes in the Student Category were chosen from a large number of entries of 256 members and 463 students. In commemorating the International Decade, a special prize of UNIC Award was also chosen. At Aichi Expo 2005, specially selected 24 works from the prize-winning works will be exhibited.
