I am pleased to send greetings to the first Japan SDG awards ceremony. 
I commend the Government of Japan for creating this award to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and encourage efforts towards their achievement.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan for peace, prosperity, opportunity and dignity for all on a healthy planet.  Achieving the 17 SDGs, and ensuring that we leave no one behind, will require the concerted efforts of governments, businesses, organizations and individuals around the world working for one common end.

I extend my congratulations to the winners of this year’s SDG awards.  You – and all those nominated alongside you – have taken the initiative to become agents of change in your communities, building on your respective areas of expertise to generate momentum towards the achievement of the SDGs.  Your commitment is an example for others to follow.
